Stolen or lost passport

If your passport is lost or stolen, it is the responsibility of the holder to inform the concerned authorities immediately.  Failure to do so may result in your lost passport being used for illegal activities and you may be liable for aiding and abetting an offence. 

 

STEPS TO FOLLOW:

1.     Download a stolen or lost passport complaint form by visiting:

2.     Make a complaint to your local police station in the country of residence and obtain a Police report as soon as possible.

 

3.     Submit the following to the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing or the nearest Sri Lanka Consulate:

a) A Police report with English translation

b) Duly filled form D

c) Duly filled form K

d) Duly filled stolen or lost passport complaint form (from (1) above)

e) Original birth certificate and Sri Lanka National Identity Card

f) Fee of HKD 2890/- or RMB 3070/-

g) If the original of the Sri Lankan National Identity Card or the Sri Lankan birth certificate is not available, the applicant will have to submit such other documentary evidence as would satisfy the Embassy beyond all doubt of his/her Sri Lankan nationality. In such cases the fee is HKD 3670/- or RMB 3890/-

h) Cost of Express Mail Service (EMS) HKD120/- or RMB 40/- in addition to the above fee for the lost passport.


4.    The Embassy or the Consulate will transmit the details of the stolen or lost passport to the Immigration Department in Sri Lanka.  Upon receipt of such information, the Immigration Department in Sri Lanka will take necessary measures to cancel the stolen, lost or missing passport.

 

A passport reported lost or stolen can no longer be used for travel.  The details of cancellation will be automatically shared worldwide through INTERPOL to avoid misuse.  Never use the lost passport again.  You are strongly advised to obtain a new passport immediately to avoid inconvenience.

IMPORTANT NOTES

 

a.     Never use a Passport reported stolen or lost.

 

b.     Passport reported stolen or lost are invalidated and can no longer be used for travel.

 

c.      The information you provide regarding a Stolen or Lost Passport will be entered in our Stolen/Lost Passport System and automatically shared internationally through INTERPOL.

 

d.     If you recover the passport after you have reported it lost or stolen, please submit it to the address listed above.  When you submit it, if requested – we will cancel it and return it to you.  If not requested, it will be destroyed.

 

e.     Once a passport is reported lost or stolen, it cannot be re-validated.
