The ancient City of Polonnaruwa

The Ancient City of Polananruwa was one of the most flourishing capitals of Sri Lanka, boasting historic splendours with ruins of palaces, parks and water tanks that are still functional today.

This city was fortified by three walls and lay within parks and gardens of rare beauty as well as shrines and a range of scared places and other archeological wonders including the King’s Council of Chamber, the Rock Cut Lotus Pond, the Statue of King Parakrama Bahu and Rock Cut Sculptures of Gal Vihare.
