The ancient city of Anuradhapura

Anuradhapura is a key religious and cultural World Heritage Site of Sri Lanka, located in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. From Colombo it takes four (04) hrs to reach the Anuradhapura Ancient City. The Ancient City of Anuradhapura was said to be the model of city planning and architecture, featuring residencies, hospitals, unmatched irrigation system, etc. Anuradhapura was the national capital of Sri Lanka for more than 1300 years until the capital was shifted to Polannaruwa                                                                     

The Ancient City of Anuradhapura has a number of tourist attractions including “Sri Maha Bodhya (Historically authenticated 2000 year old Bo Tree, grown from a Sapling of the actual Bo Tree under which Lord Buddha himself attained enlightment)”, Avukana  (a standing statue of Lord Buddha, which has a height of more than 40 feet), ruins of Buddhist Temples, Palaces, Walkways, Channels, Gardens, etc.
